(1)This Part 1-2 of EN 1996 deals with the design of masonry structures for the accidental situation of fire exposure, and is intended to be used in conjunction with EN 1996-1-1, EN 1996-2, 1996-3 and EN 1991-1-2.This part 1-2 only identifies differences from, or supplements to, normal temperature design. (2)This Part 1-2 deals only with passive methods of fire protection. Active methods are not covered. (3)This Part 1-2 applies to masonry structures which, for reasons of general fire safety, are required to fulfil certain functions when exposed to fire, in terms of: avoiding premature collapse of the structure (load bearing function); limiting fire spread (flames, hot gases, excessive heat) beyond designated areas (separating function) (4)This Part 1-2 gives principles and application rules for designing structures for specified requirements in respect of the aforementioned functions and levels of performance. This document contains catagorized results of fire tests of buildings materials, components and construction types. Due to the assignment to the classes of building materials according to DIN 4102 part 1 and the fire resistance classes of the other parts of DIN 4102 respectively, further fire tests for the verification of usability required by the building regulations are not necessary.
This standard contains sound insulation specifications of components and structures for timber construction, lightweight construction and dry walling, which may be used without acoustic testing in the calculation procedures stated in DIN 4109-2 for the verification of the requirements of DIN 4109-1.
The standard applies to factory-produced gypsum plasterboards which are made of two sheets of mill-board affixed firmly to a layer of gypsum plaster between them. Gypsum plasterboards for various applications are defined, including those used as dry lining with or without additional fire resistance properties and those used as baseboards for plaster. Dimensions, mass in relation to surface, failure loads and degrees of deflection are given.
