1.1 These requirements cover the performance during fire tests of pre-engineered fire extinguishing system units intended for the protection of commercial cooking equipment for restaurants, cafeterias and other similar venues. For installation requirements, see the following documents: NFPA 17, Standard for Dry Chemical Extinguishing Systems; NFPA 96, Standard for Ventilation Control and Fire Protection of Commercial Cooking Operations; and NFPA 17A, Standard for Wet Chemical Extinguishing Systems. Note that local authorities having jurisdiction should be consulted prior to installation. 1.2 Pre-engineered fire extinguishing system units, agents, or both are required to comply also with the requirements for construction and performance as applicable to specific types, designs, sizes, and arrangements; and all such additional requirements which apply are not within the scope of these requirements for fire tests. This new edition also includes the following revisions and clarifications: 1. Revision of Title and Scope, 2. Cooking Areas Protected With Multiple Nozzles, 3. Drip Pans For Indicated Appliances, 4. Fabricated Appliances/Commercially Available Unit, 5. Appliances with Faster Cooling Rates than 5?F per Minute, 6. Clarify Current Test Procedures. Per comments received, the proposed addition of Installation Instructions was not incorporated in this edition.
1.1 These requirements cover rating, and performance during fire tests, of fire extinguishers intended for use in attacking Class A, B, C, D, and K fires as defined herein. These requirements also cover performance during fire tests of fire extinguishing agents for application on Class D fires. The ultimate rating of an extinguisher or the prescribed use of an extinguisher or fire extinguishing agent is based on its fire-extinguishing potential as determined by fire tests and presupposes installation and use in accordance in the United States with the Standard for Portable Fire Extinguishers, NFPA 10, and with the National Fire Code of Canada. 1.2 Fire extinguishers, fire extinguishing agents, or both shall also comply with the requirements for construction and performance as applicable to specific types, designs, sizes, and arrangements. Such additional requirements are not within the scope of these requirements.
1.1 These requirements cover indirect fired oil-burning floor-supported food service equipment equippedwith an oil burner providing coverage for griddles, baking and roasting ovens, deep fat fryers, and kettles, hereinafter referred to as “appliances,” constructed entirely of new, unused parts and materials for use infood service centers of commercial, industrial, institutional and public assembly buildings.1.2 These requirements cover appliances intended to burn standard Grades No. 1 and 2 fuel oils asspecified in the Specification for Fuel Oils, ASTM D396, and standard Grades No. 1 and 2 diesel fuels asspecified in the Specification for Diesel Fuel Oils, ASTM D975.1.3 Requirements for the installation and use of oil-burning equipment are included in the Standard forInstallation of Oil-Burning Equipment, NFPA 31, and in codes such as the BOCA National MechanicalCode, the SBCC Standard Mechanical Code, and the IAPMO Uniform Mechanical Code. The applicablerequirements are to be utilized in conjunction with this outline.1.4 Appliances generating steam, at pressures above atmospheric, for cooking purposes are not coveredby these requirements.
