This Recommendation describes the cable network architecture component of the next-generation STB.
The IPCablecom2 Residential SIP Telephony effort is intended to replicate many of the residentialfeatures currently available on the public switched telephone network (PSTN), except that thefeatures operate using a IPCablecom2-based IP (Internet Protocol) network using SIP (SessionInitiation Protocol) for VoIP (voice over IP) sessions. The IPCablecom2 Residential SIP Telephonyfeatures described in this document are intended to form the basis for specification requirementsthat define the behavior of SIP clients that interact with the IPCablecom2 network and thecorresponding network behavior. This Recommendation describes the behaviour of residential telephony features using a standardRST Client (called RST User Equipment, or RST UE, or simply UE in this document) connected tothe IPCablecom2 network.Prior IPCablecom efforts have defined residential telephony capabilities that operate on anIPCablecom IP network. IPCablecom defined an MGCP-based (Media Gateway Control Protocol)architecture in which a centralized Call Management Server (CMS) controls the telephony servicesprovided by MTAs (Multimedia Terminal Adapters). The IPCablecom2 Residential SIP Telephony specification defines how UEs can support residentialtelephony capabilities similar to that of IPCablecom. This allows for the deployment of new typesof clients and services while maintaining continuity with existing residential telephony services. This Recommendation is the overview document describing basic telephony features to besupported in SIP.It is an important objective of this work that interoperability between IPCablecom 2.0 and 3GPPIMS is provided. IPCablecom 2.0 is based upon 3GPP IMS, but includes additional functionalitynecessary to meet the requirements of cable operators. Recognizing developing convergedsolutions for wireless, wireline, and cable, it is expected that further development of IPCablecom2.0 will continue to monitor and contribute to IMS developments in 3GPP, with the aim ofalignment of 3GPP IMS and IPCablecom 2.0.Note – The structure and content of this Recommendation have been organized for ease of use bythose familiar with the original source material; as such, the usual style of ITU-T recommendationhas not been applied.
This document contains the advanced IP network architecture especially in views of end-user functions for control and management. The future IP network is not just focused into the provider provisioned single network. It equally considers the integrated environments of fixed/wireless network elements to accommodate computer systems, home peripherals and intelligent appliances. The future IP network may compromise of heterogeneous requirements of service quality and physical interface from network and computer and consumer equipments.
This Supplement provides the scope of release 1 of the Next Generation Networks (NGN).This Supplement provides the release 1 environment, release 1 services, descriptions and use cases.
This supplement provides the scope of NGN release 2 of the next generation network (NGN). This supplement provides the environment, service descriptions and use cases of NGN release 2. It also includes the text of the scope of NGN release 1 according to the NGN release concept defined in [ITU-T Y.2006].
One objective of NGN is to enable seamless delivery of services across users' multiple devicesserved across different environments (home, cellular, enterprise, etc.) that are connected acrossmultiple access networks in one operator domain or different operator domains. As users moveacross different environments, their services are managed and delivered to them seamlessly andwith ease. The converged services framework (CSF) is designed to provide a common point ofcoordination for services, mobility, preferences, resources and the state of users on a per-user basis. This Recommendation defines the high-level requirements and functional architecture for the CSF.In addition, this Recommendation provides example use case scenarios (see Appendix I) tohighlight the functionality of the CSF.
