This document specifies the reference method for the testing of spectacle frames, ready-to-wear spectacles, sunglasses and other items for eye and face protection for nickel release. The reference method supports the demonstration of conformity with the limit value for nickel release of 0,5 μg/cm2/week set forth by European Regulation. This document applies to those parts of metal spectacle frames and those metal parts of combination spectacle frames that are intended to come into direct and prolonged contact with the skin of the wearer. This document also applies to those relevant metal parts of ready-to-wear spectacles, sunglasses and other items for eye and face protection.
This document specifies requirements and test methods for general purpose focimeters designed for the measurement of vertex powers, cylinder axis, prismatic power and prism base setting within a restricted area at a specified location of a lens. This excludes instruments that can only measure the whole lens at once. It is applicable to instruments typically intended for use by the ophthalmic community, with the capability to demonstrate conformity of lens products with the standards existing for these lenses.
This part of ISO 8980 specifies optical and non optical requirements, including durability, and test methods for anti-reflective coatings on spectacle lenses. This part of ISO 8980 does not deal with the following topics:— transmittance and absorptance;— the colour of the reflected light.
This part of ISO 8980 specifies the requirement and test method for spectacle lens surfaces that are claimedto provide a basic level of abrasion resistance including those with coatings.A lens claimed to be abrasion-resistant shall meet the requirements on both front and back surfaces.Lens powers and surface form is restricted for testing, however test results are applicable to claims for lensesand lens surfaces with identical properties other than the lens power or surface radius. This part of ISO 8980 does not attempt to define the properties of lens surfaces with abrasion resistancebetter than the following defined criteria.
This International Standard specifies reference test methods for determining the properties of sunglasses given in ISO 12312 (all parts). It is applicable to all sunglasses and related eyewear.
ISO 14889:2002 specifies fundamental requirements for uncut finished spectacle lenses. This International Standard is not applicable to protective spectacle lenses. ISO 14889:2002 takes precedence over the corresponding requirements of other standards, if
Adopts ISO 8980-5:2005, which specifies the requirement and test method for spectacle lens surfaces that are claimed to provide a basic level of abrasion resistance. This Standard replaces relevant text in AS 2228.1-1992, which is intended to be withdrawn by February 2012.
Adopts ISO 10322.2:2006, which specifies requirements for the optical and geometrical properties of semi-finished progressive power spectacles lens blanks. This Standard replaces relevant text in AS 2228.1-1992, which is intended to be withdrawn by February 2012.
